Here is a summary of the MacWorld SF 2008 rumours from our earlier reports or other reports around the web. We only highlight those we believe could come true. We also added a few last minute information we have obtained.

iPhone Software Update

Reports about the iPhone's upcoming firmware update fueled in December. The most trustworthy of them were based on a leaked iPhone update provided to testers. The leaked update revealed the following features:

- improved Google Maps with localization and hybrid view,
- multiple recipient SMS
- customizable home screen.

In addition to that, our sources not only confirmed these reports but also added that the firmware update would add copy-paste and improve performance and stability, as revealed in this report published earlier this month.

Our sources' last minute drops: we could have even more features in this major software update. Not impossible that Apple previews the SDK.

Ultra-thin and ultra-light MacBook

A smaller notebook could be unveiled during the event. As indicated in our, now famous, previous reports (see here and here), the most likely design specifications for Apple's subnotebook could be the following: 12 inch wide display, less than three pounds, between 0.6 and 0.7 inches thick.

The question remained open in our previous reports regarding the inclusion or not of a built-in optical drive on the Apple's smaller sub-notebook.

MacRumors recently reported that Apple's sub-notebook an external optical drive and a "Multi-Touch" capable trackpad.

Our sources' last minute drops: After questionning our sources, we have reasons to believe MacRumors' report is at least partially reliable. Not so sure about the screen size, maybe 13 inch after all.

Movie Rentals and Apple TV

The Movie Rentals service is almost sure to be unveiled during MacWorld, deals with major studios such as Fox have a been confirmed by major publications (see New York Times' report - requires subscription).

As for the Apple TV, no serious report out there but with some good sense we can guess it will get improved at least with more storage.

MacScoop had been told a little while ago that the Apple TV could also get 1080p (Full HD) capabilities but we had no confirmation on this lately. In case this is true, we could also have improved wireless which would allow better streaming quality for 1080p content.

Our sources' last minute drops: nothing!

So What's in the air?

Speculation fueled when Apple posted banners at MacWorld and on its web site with the slogan: "There's something in the air".

9to5mac is claiming that the new MacBook will be called MacBook Air and that it will feature extended wireless capabilities.

Our sources' last minute drops: before Apple shows its teaser, some sources had suggested Apple was interested in Wimax. However, as you might know, Intel's architecture will start incorporating this technology officially in mid-2008.

MacScoop's keynote coverage

MacScoop should be able to provide live coverage for MacWorld SF 2008 opening keynote through a dedicated, stripped down version of the site. We may start with a little delay but we should quickly catch-up by 9:15 (PST).
