Apple announced today that it has sold over 5 billion songs through iTunes since its launch on April 2003. The company sold the last billion of songs during the past six months and is also reporting great results for its movie rental and download business as more than 50 000 movies are purchased or rent every day. This figures bring Apple to the first spot of both the music and movies retail business, including physical sales. iTunes now offers over 8 million songs with 2 million of them available without digital copy protection.
